Parts, takes, and story lines
Learn how story parts, alternative takes, branches, and the selected story line work in 1667.
Story parts
A story part is one unit of prose. Press ↑ or ↓ to move between parts.
The focused part is highlighted. Edit, retake, tag, and delete actions apply to that part.
Takes
A take is one version of a story part. One part can have several takes.
Press ← or → to change takes. Other takes remain in the story tree.
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Write a take yourself | w |
| Ask the model for another take | r |
| Change the direction, then ask again | R |
| Edit the focused part | e |
| Delete the focused take and its children | D |
Editing saves a new take by default. The earlier take remains available. Deletion requires confirmation.
Story lines
The selected take at each point forms the story line. This is the version that you read and export.
If you select a different take, the story line follows that branch. Takes on the other branch remain in the tree.
The map
Press m to open the map. Press m again to change its view.
- Path shows the selected story line.
- Tree shows where the story branches.
- Mass shows every take.
Press Enter to open the selected part. Press Esc to close the map.
Story-line tags
Press t to tag the selected story line. A tag has a name and a status: Canon,
Alt, Draft, Discarded, or Summary.
A story can have one Canon line. If you set another line to Canon, the earlier Canon line becomes Alt.
